Carr Separation Systems, established in 1992, develops scalable continuous-flow centrifugation systems. Centritech, established in 1991, manufactures a unique line of continuous centrifuges designed for cell perfusion and harvest. These centrifuges serve a variety of markets throughout the world, including:
- Pharmaceutical and Drug Discovery
- Biotechnology
- Academic and Government-Based Research
- Blood Processing
- Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratories
- Industrial, Environmental, and Agricultural Separations
Cell Culture
CENTRITECH® Gentle separation/perfusion system providing separation forces up to 320 g. Two systems are available - CENTRITECH LAB-II and CENTRITECH CELL.
Benefits
- Gentle cell handling coupled with removal of dead cells, offering higher viability and productivity
- Closed system with pre-sterilized disposable inserts, eliminates the need for CIP/SIP
- Automated continuous separation
- Ergonomic design suited to modern laboratory environments
- Full scalability for perfusion bioreactors (5-3000 liter) or cell harvest (5-600 liter)
ViaFuge® The CARR® ViaFuge range of separation systems is designed for cell harvest and supernatant recovery on any scale. Capable of separating a wide variety of mammalian and insect cells with little or no damage, the ViaFuge offers intact cell recovery efficiencies in excess of 99% with negligible cell concentrations in clarified supernatant. Two systems are available - ViaFuge - Pilot and ViaFuge V12
Benefits
- Gentle recovery with minimal cell damage, providing up to 93% reduction in downstream process filtration requirements
- Unique SoftStream® low-shear design in which feed is matched to bowl's rotational velocity, allowing fast, efficient harvest of even the most shear-sensitive cells without damage
- Variable feed rates from 0.1 - 40 L/min provide flexibility for harvests*
- Cells concentration by a factor of 30 for the Pilot and 20 for the V12 production-scale centrifuge*
- Closed system design, allowing recovery of concentrated cells and supernatant without breaking containment
- Fully automated CIP/SIP option available on V12 provides validatable cleaning and sterilization without disassembly of the centrifuge
- Seamless integration into automated processes
* Actual process conditions are dependent on the characteristics of the fluid, amount and type of solids and required degree of clarification.
Small Particles - bacteria, yeast, large sub-cellular components & plasma proteins
Powerfuge® Powerfuge is a scalable family of high-efficiency separation systems operating from 500 to 20,000 g. Four systems are available - Pilot, P6, P12 & P18 - operating with flow rates from 6 - 1,700 liters per hour and with solids capacity from 1 to 36 kg per cycle.
Benefits
- Higher product and drier solids recovery than other technologies, through more complete liquid/solid separation
- True Clean® design, enabling cGMP compliance through sanitary design with integrated CIP/SIP software (P6, P12 & P18)
- Closed system design, allowing solids and supernatant to be recovered without breaking containment (P6, P12 & P18)
- XP configuration is available in all models providing use with flammable solvents
- Sterile operation of the tabletop Pilot is possible if operated in a laminar flow cabinet
- Seamless integration into automated processes
- Full scalability
